J/105 North American Championship is coming to San Diego!

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to the 2012 J/105 North American Championships, hosted at San Diego Yacht Club from October 17th - 21st, 2012. We expect this to be one of the best attended events and would like to see representation from all fleets to make this an incredible turnout and a great North Americans for all.  San Diego is a special city known the world over for its great weather and extraordinarily friendly and hospitable locals, that will no doubt make you feel right at home.  San Diego Yacht Club is home to some of the best sailing and the best sailors the USA has to offer. San Diego Yacht Club is no stranger to hosting world class events, having recently hosted the 2011 Etchells Worlds, the Thistles Worlds and multiple Star Worlds Championships -  not to mention three America's Cups. Our goal for the J/105 North Americans is to put on a magnificent regatta with great race management and wonderful onshore entertainment that will surely be a magnificent memory for all sailors participating.

October is an especially incredible time to visit San Diego, whether you're visiting our world famous Zoo or Sea World, the amazing USS Midway Museum or enjoying the fun of the Gaslamp Quarter which is known for topnotch restaurants and nightlife. You will be visiting at the perfect time of year - after all of our summer visitors have gone home - making the hotel rates a bit friendlier and the restaurants a little less crowded.  Sailing in San Diego in October promises consistent weather with our normal 8-11 knots, sailing just off Coronado, with some of the best race management available in the world, who will be making sure you will get some full days of racing in sunny San Diego.  Local knowledge is not one of the most important factors here in San Diego as we plan on having some of our best sailors from Fleet Eight providing local tips, along with our experts at North, Ullman and UK on hand, giving free clinics and help prior to the event.

San Diego Yacht Club will be Headquarters for all the pre-regatta activities, including measurement, trailer storage and docking. And with the recent completion of the Malin Burnham Sailing Center, it will serve as Race Headquarters and be the center of all the other shore side activities as well. This brand new World Class Sailing Facility recently hosted the inaugural National Sailing Hall of Fame Induction and members of San Diego Yacht Club are proud to share this facility with you during the North Americans.

Our Fleet Captain, Chuck Driscoll, is working on low to no cost arrangements for visiting J/105 sailors for launching and trailer storage, along with locating all the available J/105's he can for charter. Jon Dekker has volunteered to head up the measurement process and Amanda Denton, our very capable J Concierge, is already hard at work with a large group of volunteers from SDYC to make the regatta run flawlessly. We look forward to putting on a great J/105 National Championship that you will not want to miss!
